An Ash burl turned and carved to resemble a sleeve cuff with a cufflink made from walnut, maple and ebony. The reverse is textured, pyrography. Watco and Minwax oil finishes.

I sketched many variations on this theme which exploits my connection with constructed garments, and the familiar forms of clothing which evoke the body’s contours. I’m especially inspired by their functional details. I’ve explored the forms of belts, pockets, collars and buttons. This bowl partakes of the crispness of a starched cuff, a ‘herringbone’ textured exterior and a ‘cuff link’ of precious woods: spalted maple, walnut and ebony.
